Ciclopista del Brenta: Levico-Bassano
The section which is discussed on this page runs in the Valsugana Valley between Levico Terme and Bassano del Grappa. You can of course also go in the opposite direction, but you should note that Levico is about 300 m higher than Bassano, so this option is slightly more challenging, although the climb is still very moderate, except for a couple of rather steep stretches, however brief.
The starting point is the train station in Levico. On leaving the station turn left, take the overpass over the tracks and head south for about 600 m; on the left side of the road we find the entrance to the bike path that runs along the right bank of the Brenta River; the trail continues to Borgo Valsugana, the principal town center of Valsugana; the bike route crosses through the countryside, marked by symbols on the pavement.
Upon leaving Borgo you will pass by the new train station Borgo Valsugana Est [East] and then back along the river in the direction of Ospedaletto.
After Ospedaletto you continue on a local road open to motorized traffic heading towards Tezze and Primolano, where just before an intersection a new section of dedicated bike path has recently been opened, along the right bank of the river, which passes under high rocks in one of the narrowest sections of the valley.
Once in Cismon del Grappa the bike path ends and you need to ride on a shared road, which is relatively peaceful until the village of Valstagna, where there is also a nice view of the rapids of the river; after Valstagna the road becomes increasingly busy all the way to Bassano del Grappa, where there is a train station on the Venice-Trento line.
