The Po River Delta is an ideal region for cycling excursions; sparsely inhabited and therefore sparsely trafficked, the delta is traversed by many quiet roads and, obviously, completely flat.

The route that I propose here starts from, and returns to, the train station at Adria (reachable by direct trains from Venice and Rovigo). Leave the train station, head south on the main avenue, to get across town and over the drawbridge [at Via Chieppara]; shortly afterwards turn left onto a wide road [Strada Chieppara] that becomes regional highway SR495; you will veer right and cross the Po over the [half-mile] long bridge that carries one into the Ariano “pocket”, an area delimited by the Po di Venezia and the Po di Goro.

Immediately after the bridge, when you come to the interchange [with Via Battare], head right towards the village of Corbola, where you can access the towpath road along the River Po [heading first north then east], and which leads us to Taglio di Po and finally to Porto Tolle.

From Porto Tolle different routes are possible that continue all the way to the mouths of the Po di Pila and the Po di Tolle, but these would involve a considerable increase in travel distance.

The return from Porto Tolle involves going through Ca’ Vendramin and from there accessing the towpath road on the north side [left bank] of the Po di Goro, which takes us, in about 15 km, to Ariano nel Polesine. From here take the local road to Corbola; but, a few km before reaching Corbola, in the locality of Crociarone, turn a brief right and you will rejoin the SR495 which brings us back to Adria [and the train station], along the route described at the beginning, in reverse order.
