Description of the route
An alternative route to the one between Codroipo and San Giorgio di Nogaro, is now preferable since the completion of the stretch of the Ciclovia [bike path] Alpe Adria between Udine and Cervignano. Major points of interest include: Villa Manin in Passariano, Palmanova, and the two castles of Strassoldo.
The route shown on the map to the right starts at the train station at Codroipo on the Venezia-Udine line and follows a dedicated bike route to the large Villa Manin at Passariano.
After Passariano the route continues on local roads with little traffic, occasionally on bike paths, passing through many small towns such as Castions di Strada, and as far as Gonars, where one takes the road to Felettis and from there to Palmanova, one of the most famous city fortifications in the world.
Upon leaving Palmanova, by way of the south gate, one quickly finds the Alpe Adria bike route on the left, at first it is a rather rough unpaved section, then continues on local roads as far as Strassoldo, and then on dedicated bike paths to Cervignano nel Friuli, where there is a train station on the Venezia-Trieste line.
