In Ferrara near the Castello Estense [Este castle] there is also a monument to Savonarola who was born in Ferrara in 1452. At Francolino the bike path from Ferrara, on the right in the photo, joins up with the Destra Po bike path. Along the route several signs present excerpts from “Mulino del Po” a famous novel by Riccardo Bacchelli. The view near Berra; in reality the bike path doesn’t travel through any villages. The bike path at Ariano Ferrarese (FE); across the bridge is the twin village of Ariano nel Polesine (RO). The most famous palazzo of Ferrara, about 500 m/.3 mile north of the Castello Estense along the Corso Ercole d’Este, owes its name to the pyramidal stone facing (nicknamed diamonds). The Po di Venezia, the principal Po of the estuary, at Porto Tolle; in the distance you can glimpse the final bridge before the mouth of the river. The Po di Goro, one of the southern branches of the estuary between Mesola and Ariano. Ariano nel Polesine; on the left a metal bridge leads to the Emilia Romagna side of the river, Ariano Ferrarese. The road in the middle goes to Corbola and towards Adria. The provincial road from Ariano to Corbola runs through agricultural fields and scattered villages.
